I walked into EXILES and was pleasantly surprised at the friendly atmosphere of the bar. Three young guys, Danny and Donagh from Ireland and Brian from Buffalo opened their first bar as of June 6. "When we were looking for a place for our bar the biggest thing that we needed to find is a bar of character. We finally found it in Stetson's. It has that old charm feeling that you just can't find in a modern bar no matter how hard you try. The upstairs is used for parties and is open on Friday and Saturdays for the public in addition the backyard patio is open. We added heat lamps since it is our first winter we keep adding things as we learn. We thought that EXILES is a fitting name for Washington DC since everybody here is an EXILE of some sort from all around the world. Including me from Ireland and Donagh and even Brian is from Buffalo. It has the same meaning as EXPATS out of the country. I'm happy yes. And I wouldn't go back to working for somebody else but of course although it is fun and exciting it is a little scary since we're the bosses now and responsible for everything you know?" O yes I say I know. Come eat the great American Smoking Meat, drink the craft beers and meet local people from around the world. Right here on Ustreet.

He says as he proudly shows me the cool bar across from the FireHouse that used to be called Stetson's, "The entire neighborhood was on edge when Stetson's went up for sale. The actual bar has been here about 100 years and it was definitely a neighborhood bar, yet when we bought the bar we didn't want to change that feeling. You know we're family guys and we want to make Washington DC our home too. We all love neighborhood bars and intended on keeping it that way except our version!"
"The coolest thing for me is meeting the Firehouse guys and the Police people who come in  here after work. They're real cool people and you know everybody thinks of them in a certain light. Yet they're people too and they like to hangout here." Danny says. I start laughing and say, "It is funny because you never want to see a police person unless you're calling them on the phone to ask for help or you try to avoid them in the traffic lanes!" Danny says, "I know that is the way everybody says however they're real cool and we're happy to have them. The other funny thing is the priests. People always think of priests a certain way too yet the ones I've known are real cool and come in without their outfits on and drink a couple of beers. In Ireland they were God above the police you know. Back in the day everybody used to say that they were more afraid of the priests then anybody else! Of course now it is modern day and they're looked at as just people!" he says.
If you walk out the back you find a wonderful outdoor patio with, "That is Suzy the Smoker. We even named the smoker," says Danny, the one of two Irish young blokes that own the EXILES. "We smoke brisket and actually all of our meats. Here let's open it up and see. Yep!" he says as he opens the huge smoker in the backyard of EXILES to see if it is smoking at the moment! It is full of meat. "We actually don't have Irish food on the menu although me and Donagh are both from Ireland. Brian, the third partner, is from Buffalo.
"We had a party on November 9th here and people came wearing Trump and Hillary shirts and played beer pong against each other in the bar upstairs. It was real cool to see that they had different opinions yet they came here and partied together the day after the election while we watched protests on tv."

Unfortunately Amanda(leesa) and Elizabeth at Blue Planet didn't want to sponsor but were kind enough to say this "we can shoot you an email if we receive people from the emmeanesbook site, is that okay?" hmm people in glass houses or this case boats! OK! It is always lovely to show my love of my life Albert Thurn und Taxis who is real friends or family! hmm. Anyway I have 3 lovely Scuba Diving places that do sponsoring in Regensburg Germany and they do trips around the world. It is just as easy to call these places and do trips to exotic and cool places since you will be flying to meet the s uba teams anyway. Please check out the Scuba on Regensburg for all these lovely people who this morning expressed interest in learning about scuba. Combine a trip to Regensburg at  Christmas with Scuba. Ciao.

At least Stephanie really loves her Scuba Diving! Me? I met my friend Stephanie in DC
a couple of nights ago. She too loves to Scuba Dive and has been everywhere in the world.
We went to Stoney's a famous local hangout near 14th Street and chatted about                 tragedies in Italy, hurricanes in Jacksonville, and life in Germany, where she loves to live. She now is on her way to Miami where I shall in about 3 days journey to. Is she going to be scuba diving in the states? No I don't think so she says. Yet she loves the Caribbean. Me to
MEZE Elegant WINE bar in Trendy Adams Morgan's owner, Sully,
is a warm funny Turkish man who says, "hmm...it is definitely more stressful being a owner!"
"Okay so you want to know my story, right? It is a kind of cool story, I met the owner of a famous Hotel in Istanbul, where I am from, in 1999 and he invited me to help in the very trendy famous night club named Cities. Cities was located right across the street form MEZE and in 1999 I thought I would be here for 6 months; however, I ended up staying for 17 years!" he says laughing. Did he ever think that in 1999 while he was running a Istanbus Night Club he would one day be a American Citizen owning a elegant Turkish inspired Wine Bar in Trendy Adams Morgan? "NO!" he says emphatically. "I thought that I would be married in Istanbul and have a couple of kids you know. Yet here I am working on Fridays and Saturdays til 3am. Things don't turn out the way you hope" he says.

Above the lovely Turkish wine, hummus red pepper spread, and hard goat's cheese all from Turkey. Lovely romantic dinner. +1 202-797-0017
"And these are authentic lights from Istanbul," Sully says. I happen to love the glass lamps from Syria and Turkey, they're some of the most beautiful in the world, and here they hang right above the second level."On the third level is where we open it on Fridays and Saturdays about 11:00pm for Dancing and Drinks, yet it is completely private upstairs and you have your own bartender and wait staff. On Sunday nights we have Tango lessons from 6:00pm til 8:00pm with Tango dancing from 8:00pm to 11:00pm. If anyone want to join please have the new students call the restaurant and we can help with the signing up." he says. "Plus it is a open bar upstairs on Sunday night the entire time they Tango." http://mezedc.com/
The first night I came in I told Sully that his bartender was such a nice person having suggested the Turkish Wine and having tried it I elected to stay for dinner. At first I just thought it a elegant wine bar, yet found out through the bartender that it is actually a Turkish and Mediterenean restaurant. Yum:) "Yes, I am the only restaurant in Washington DC that flies the Turkish flag outside yet honestly most people unless your Turkish don't recognize it. The ones that do come in only since it is Turkish. The others come in because they think it is a elegant wine bar!" "They come for the Turkish band that we have every couple of weeks, too. The people honestly that come for the turkish food have been in Turkey, the others come to try it for the first time. Me? I am glad to be here to introduce the Turkish food to the American people, and to the tourists, too." he says.
"Counter Culture coffee pour over coffee is a single origin blend for each guest that is poured at the table. You would be surprised at how informed the guests are about the European Concept, however even the people who don't know what it is love to try it." , says Jamie
"Here is the Mercedes Benz of Espresso makers, all hand poured, you have to have a little skill to make espresso, however  the machine doesn't know how to make a bad espresso." says Jamie.
Jamie is adorable. Bouncy and Smart and Fun. She and her cook of Emissary I met today while they were busy in the cool brass yuppie bar area pondering how to fit the idea and vision of their owner's new start up into the community. It is situated in the swanky Embassy Lanes of Washington DC which I guess is where the name comes from pun intended. When I entered I thought it a cool airy cafe; however, it has cement floors, a coffee cafe in front with open space onward to a "laptop bar" says Jamie. Sitting at the "laptop bar" where the cook is busy behind the open window of the kitchen is a group of young students. They're all happy sitting typing away.http://www.emissarydc.com/

"I encourage students to come in and we love having them but I try to encourage them to eat , too!" she laughs. "It is a new business model that we're trying to introduce to the neighborhood and the bar in the back of the restaurant doesn't have its own entrance although it is a speakeasy type of bar. People just need to know that it is here." says Jamie.    http://www.emissarydc.com/
To reach the bar area where the "real beers and real whiskeys and scotch a traditional bar," says Jamie, you must first enter the European Coffee entrance and walk to the right where the open space houses the laptop bar and tables. Think lots of open spaces. And continue on to the liquor bar. It is deep in a red and white brick walled cave-like room with white washed bricks and colorful liquor bottles adorning the back bar. Lots of cool barstools and ledges and counters to sit and play at. I said that I could imagine a real important Woodrow Wilson discussion happening here or a romantic interlude. Hidden and private, hip and great selection of real whiskeys and scotches...
Seriously with real food presentations like this who wouldn't want to hang out here? "It is a European concept of fresh ingredients and fresh food everyday. It has great vegetarian dishes from local farms. Please stress this that every item is fresh and local. We have Maryland and Virginia and Washington D.C. craft beers, whiskey and scotch from New York to Carolina quite cool and the wine is from Europe mostly since we want biodynamic sustainable wines."(very expensive to certify...i googled it!) Jamie says, "Me and Matthew tested and tasted everything the last 4 months. Matthew is still tasting and the cheese people come in and have him try new cheeses. That is fun. We're still trying."matt making things pretty. or is it making pretty things? fall menu coming soon. #emissarydc #dupontcircle #vegfriendly
The Beauty of the Brass Bar in the Hidden Cave Room of the Emissary
Here is the lovely chef who, along with Jamie, started a first Monday of FRESHFARM Markets that completely sold out, good for Mr. Matthew! "Me and Matthew go to the Local Fresh Farmer's Markets near here every Saturday and Sunday and wanted to try out the concept of a total and complete home-cooked meal all from these fresh ingredients for Matthew to first cook and serve to the guests. We tried it out on a Monday and sold out. It was incredible. Now it is in the experimental phase of lets see which day we can delegate to FreshFarm." says Jamie.

Georgetown DC has great restaurants. That is a given. It has wonderful brass bars and unique funky pricey restaurants. Afterall it is here that Henry Kissinger takes the Limosine from his pad in Georgetown a couple of streets to have a beer. The favorite Mexican tiny boutique is DonLobos. I love the tiny restaurant since I love real Mexican food and I loved the people. Especially Manager Jose who is always super nice and friendly. Simple and Yum!

"Yes we're all Mexican. Okay I am Mexican and the owner is Mexican and that is it." admits Jose the first time I meet him. Is the bartender Mexican? "No just us." he says then he thinks about it for a minute says, "Wait that is actually the cooks. The cooks are all Mexican too. That is why the Mexican food is the best since we're all from Mexico," he says. The Margaritas are pretty good too.       http://donlobos.com/Image result for margueritas
Pictured to the left is Jose with his fun waitstaff..."want to come into the kitchen and see the food?" Jose jokes and I say that of course yes I want to see the food...I LOVE MEXICAN food!

The Beautiful Wine Bar Sonoma on the Capitol Hill's owner says, "Yes me and Maryl, my yoga partner, thought we should get all the yoga people drunk and they would buy bigger yoga memberships." he jokes while we hang out one night at their newest venture, Emissary on 20th and P St. They laugh and Maryl says, "Yes it really helps. You know in California everybody has yoga studios and health food restaurants connected. Here is a first of Washington DC. I also own the Georgetown Yoga Studio which is a concept Yoga studio where if you can come and teach your own techniques." she says. I say that it is actually really cool that they can have an entire package of eating healthy and doing yoga before or after.

Sonoma's elegance is" a big parent to Emissary. "I am really joking when I said that we encourage everybody to drink more wine so that they will sign bigger yoga contracts! Most people don't come here to drink wine and then run to yoga afterwards. But at the Emissary since we bought the yoga studio 3 months ago above it and then decided that we didn't want say a donut shop below the yoga studio we added a healthy alternative of counter coffee culture and healthy fresh farm food.", says Eli."You have to come and try a glass of wine with us." he invites and I say that of course I shall come to Sonoma...it is seriously one of my favorite places in DC.

"Yes I have relatives in Colombia," says the Wonderful Director of Tortilla Coast Logan Circle at P Street and 14th in Washington DC. His name when you walk into the restaurant for the famous Happy Hour tonight from 3:30pm to 7:30pm? Escobar! That is right Escobar...Rodrigo Escobar. "People always ask me if I am related to Mr. Escobar of Colombia. They call me little Escobar here!" he says laughing. "The people of Colombia think that he is a great man." he says. And Torlilla Coast? "O I love the people here. Tonight you must come in. It is trivia Game night and you must be a team. If you walk in alone we pair you with a team. It is all about meeting friends and having a team. O and make sure that you promote our PATRON tequila night which is October 19. On that night the owners of PATRON are sponsoring a event for $60.00 total.
That includes dinner, 3 tequila cocktails made with premium Platinum Tequila and 5 shots to taste new Tequilas. A 4 course dinner. Now that should be sold out. The PATRON people are giving us special 150 shot glasses to give to the guests. First come on reservations first seatings" he says. Call at 202-629-3280

Channin is a manager since 1 year, "I went to Howard University and graduated with a Marketing Major! After a couple of years including the LLC Woman owned Group Dash Marketing in DC, I joined the culinary group here. I always really wanted to be in the food and hospitality business. I started with the popular Cafe Deluxe and now I am the Bar Manager of Tortilla Coast." the sweet and kind manager says when I interviewed her today.

The Tex-Mex food is wonderful and of course people come for it, however, me? I love the margaritas!
"We have happy hours everyday for young professionals and they start 3:30pm to 7:30pm and on Friday and Saturday nights we have another happy hour from 22:00pm to 24:00pm. All the items on the Happy hour are under $6.00 with the homemade guacamole being the most expensive at $6.00. It is a super great deal and the frozen margaritas with the 6 different fruits are only $5.00. If you want to add a shot of one of the 70 Tequilas such as the jalepeno that makes the frozen margaritas sweet and spicy. People love it. It is a great place to socialize and to join a table and make new friends."
"O you walked by it last night. You saw the Paint night. It is a cool concept that we partner with a Artistic Group that alternates every other week here. So you can go onto the website of Paint Night or ask us and we can help you with it. You choose what you would love to paint and we open  up the doors to the street. You sit and learn to paint that night and of course have some great Margaritas!" says Channin. http://www.tortillacoast.com/      1460 P St. NW 202-629-3280

The best thing about the INDEPENDENCE, I mean besides the fact I wrote from 51 pages to 55 pages of my first script in it last night while drinking a JOHHNY WALKER BLACK LABEL( they didn't have BLUE or RED) and The Johnny Walker, which they give a huge portion for such a small sum of $20.00 on the rocks, made everything surreal. Especially if you are drinking it for the first time. The second best is that they didn't have the Cubs game on. Hallelujah! The bar is a classic elegant wine bar style with couples chrome tables at the smokey glass windows and cool bars that make you feel Wall Street Important which is why I ordered the classic whiskey on the rocks...yum love it. The third reason is since I first went to Barneys Beanery where after 15 minutes on each level of the huge sports bar where all they had on the big screens Cubs games and receiving appropriately zero service. Um first upstairs where everybody that was a first timer and that is everybody upstairs, trust me I asked all the couples at the overlooking ledge of the upper stories bar, said that they had no idea how to be served. Nobody came to help out the 50 people hanging out upstairs staring around. When a couple brought up beers from below we all figured it out and everybody ran down the two sided staircases. Once at the alcohol bar the snotty hostesses asked, "where are you sitting?" "Upstairs I said, O that is why. We don't serve upstairs people you have to come to the bar and order yourself!" O okay and once at the busy bar? Any service to bring the food and drinks upstairs? Nope. Okay Barney I love you but... on to the Independence where the bartender a gorgeous classic lady immediately takes the orders and gives you smiling and professional service. Cool.

The Independence Tavern Santa Monica
The only thing colelr about the Independence is a couple of things and one is that when I went back to my even cooler hostel in Santa Monica, the best ever, I immediately fell fast asleep. The whiskey put me out like a light and I didn't have to deal with my other roommates all of who complained about my phone vibrating all night long with messages every 33 seconds...literally. I guess they tried waking me up but failed! oops! And I loved my whiskey script that much that I registered it today at the, copyright office Wash. DC, ...my first ever. I am now a official Scriptwriter!
Alright now I am sipping my first Johnny Walker which is strong'er than sin and a couple sits right next to my quiet peaceful writing my first script on my laptop private bar. I mean right next to me. The girl's body is touching mine. She is foreign and says her and her husband spanish. Okay I try to move one seat to the left since at the bar is about 25 seats and she tries to pick mine! Um...Hello! Okay I move and the bartender immediately asks to see her ID. The conversation is "me? don't understand?" The bartender, "It's easy as that. I need to see your id." The spanish girl, "I'm from france.I don't understand. Here I am" The bartender, "I need to see your id. A passport." The spanish girl in broken spanish, "See me I am here. I am french." The bartender, "Yes I know if you want to sit at the bar and drink you  have to show me a passport. You have to be over 21 and I don't believe your over 21." she says.  To which the girl digs in her bag and produces a passport, "here is my husbands passport" she says. The bartender gives up and says, "okay." and about 3 minutes later she puts a drink in front of the spanish/french girl. "Here is your coca cola" says the bartender and I couldn't help but giggle at the pissed look on the customers face.

Here is the start of the Santa Monica Boardwalk and the beauty of the city. The one thing that I do notice about the coastal cities of California is that they all kind of blend into one another. They have little sections of the cities with tons of restaurants and bars and beach and little tuffs of grass and residential sections. Then they have other little sections of restaurants and bars and more little tuffs of grass and residential sections all running into one another. The only thing that is for sure is the ocean continuous along side. Depending on the cities such as San Diego the ocean side streets are one lane and winding with little circles in the middle that make the cars and buses barely able to navigate around these.
The other such as Santa Monica has bigger roads of 2 lanes and more pronounced hotels and clubs. They all have the appearance of independents yet for the most part aren't at all with the bartenders or managers saying the owners are rarely if ever present and have people doing the responsible positions without the responsible authority. Which of course makes it difficult for me to do my job. As the website's main focus and purpose is to let entreprenuers reach as many people as possible and to let  entreprenuers around the world introduce themselves it makes it easier when I can actually meet and interview these cool people. However when the entreprenuer is unavaliable all the manager or bartenders do, in fairness to them,  is pretty much give a vague description of both the boss and the business!
The european system is such that most of the places have the owners present buildng their dreams side by side with their workers. Here it is a little challenging yet I'm trying. Hope you love the people I do have a chance to chat with and let share their lifes and dreams with you. And of course eat their great food, drink their signature cocktails, enjoy their vision of fun. Ciao.

Walking directly onto the World Famous Santa Monica Pier you will see the wonderful fresh fish restaurant, The Albright. Continue on to the Bubba Shrimp House and the 1950s era of Dirty Dancing Boardwalk Rides! It's Quaint and touristy yet fun to see.

The old fashioned light blue charm of the bike below caught my eye...I imagine the owner was eating at the Blue Plate Taco!  Or taking a dip in the ocean!

and the lovely Los Angeles Tex-Mex at 723 Walnut makes every item fresh in the kitchen all day long! Yum!
"Me and my partner, Pete, both started here about 14 years. We bought the restaurant 6 years ago and the only difference is you pay attention to little details now. We didn't pay ourselves a paycheck for the first year. Only minimum wage. And now we have lines almost 3 hrs. long at lunch. It is about respect. Respect of your guests, respect of employees. We throw parties for our employees all the time. We close the store and hire one of these bouncy things for the employees kids and we throw a party and guess what? The newest employee has been here 4 years to 17 years." I tell him that everywhere in the world the worst thing employers say about owning a business is the employees leaving. He is lucky! "I know what it is like to be on the other side. I know that it is important to feel appreciated and respected. That is important to me." says Geronimo.
What Mr. James Comey does for a burrito!
I like 723 Walnut. Why? Because at"happy hour you can BYOB you're own tequila and the good stuff not the cheap stuff!" says Geronimo, the owner of the cool funky "everyday all day homemade guacamole and every item you eat." Because they love facebook and other social media love it. At 723 Walnut they love that people come from everywhere in the world to try the very Los Angeles Tex-Mex food. They're real funny and real nice people here.. O yes and the name itself is transitioning into the new presidency..."You're fired!" ha ha ha. "make sure you tell people that you bring the tequila and we have the glasses!"

"I came from Argentina about 17 years now to Philly. I started working here 14 years ago and now I have owned it the last 6 years. I can attest that I made the American Dream a reality. I can say that I came here from Buenos Aires, got a visa here and citizenship. And it is true that I work hard everyday. Everyday I am happy to be American. I love the people. My advise to young people?" He starts laughing, "I guess should I say that I am happy making burritos? Yet I am. I am happy to own my own business. You know we do catering too and meet real people of interest in the community. It gives me a great opportunity to do that. The business is what you make of it." he says.

"I guess one of the differences is we are one of the first Mexican type of restaurants in Philly. Chipotle came after us and others yet when we lost people to them they immediately came back to us. Why? The food is better and fresh and homemade here. That is the quality that they love. We care about the guests and the food. I think you can tell the difference." says Geronimo. I believe that too. I don't care for fast food restaurants unless they're healthy and fresh the way that El Fuego is. And for tourists it is about 4 blocks from the liberty bell! Worth it...
                                                                                       236 Market,  (267) 687-8653
                                    http://www.stosbar.com/
And let us introduce Mike to emmeanesbook...he doesn't even look like an accountant, does he?  "When I approached the old owner of the bar he gave me such a great deal that I took it. Now one year later, I am finally able to day I know what I am doing, but it took one year."
"I am a Pitt Alumni(that is University of Pittsburgh) and I now have between 130 to 50 people that come to see the games here. I would say that they come to socialize and connect and the premise is the Pitt game!"
Met Mike, the owner of Sto's...and he is hilarious. "See my logo of Sto's? Notice the S? That is my nose," is about the first words he says to me and at that he shows me his profile. Yep it is his nose. "And everybody calls me Sto nobody calls me Mike!" he says. The coolest item in Sto's bar? Honestly there are so many. One is the "Mario Kart Games," he says. At the front of the bar when you enter is a table with two chairs and two televisions where you can play Mario Kart to your hearts content.
                           Nintendo fans only.
The second is the fact that he has many different televisions and "they don't just have sports on." He wants to say that  "it isn't only sports on tv at the bar."  "I ultimately want a comfortable bar where you can come up and talk to the bartendcr, watch videos, play shuffle board and when you receive the check  it is only $35.00 for food and beer." he says.
"I need to show you the beer garden, too. Tonighjt it will be open up. When the weather is nice people love it."
"Honestly one of the reasons I bought the bar is that I am very creative. No, Seriously. Very. Okay the first degree I had is a accountant and the couple of years as a accountant my mother loved me yet when I told her I was quitting as a accountant she was very distressed. Yet I said, I am going to law school. That cheered her up. Now? I am the owner of a bar, we're back to distressed again, however I wouldn't say I had fun the first year which is where I am now. It is work owning a bar. The fun is for instance when I went to London I saw a bar that had a collage of pictures on the wall. I really loved it. I came back and I made my own collages on the wall. The left hand side of the walls is pop culture and girly stuff, the girls here helped me with that. On the right hand side you do see a lot of people involved in sports." Says Mike. Wow I say that to do a pyschological evaluation of Mike all you have to do is check out his wall!
People having fun at his bar below his cool collages.

The character played by Dito, i corrected it from Dido, is truly amazing. Very honest and deep and vulnerable. Amazing. Loved the characters although personally thought they made fun of instead of had fun with the people they were impersonating; however it being my one and only drag show it is totally lovely :)

                                             GEORGIA MCBRIDE...NIGHTLY AT 6:30PM

The Legend of Georgia McBride BY matthew Lopez. directed by Emmanuelle Delpech

"You should see the production of "John" upstairs, " he says and as if on cue I say, "Brennan?" it is as if someone says Scottish Play I automatically say "Brennan" whenever someone says John and most people just stare at me! same reaction okay on with the interview. "The other cool thing about Arden is the Children's theater. Amy and Terry had two boys and Amy said you know I would love a theater that indoctrinates children into the theater experience.Image result for children's theater series of arden theater They started the children's theater with Charlotte's Web. The coolest thing about the children's theater company productions is the fact that the budget of the mainstage adult programs is the same as the children's theater. That is amazing. The same care and attention and details go into the sets, lightings, actors, etc. as the adult theater and to attest to the great success of these series is the Barrymore awards that we had displayed in the lobby." he says. WOW! "And they have a series of tickets for inner city children in Philadelphia and New Jersey", he says.  "along with teachers that go into the schools and teach these children theater."

LOVE i say yes

I had a wonderful opportunity to interview the director of the Arden's extensive Marketing and Public Relations Department...Stephen is a lovely person, "I started with the Arden about 1 and 1/2 years now..." he starts the conversation as we sit in one of the coolest architectural lobbys that you will ever see...with stairs suspended above you..."the name Arden theater and the founding members started together about 30 years now. Aaron Posner(now a successful playwright-hey albert maybe we could have Aaron tidy up our screenwriter's guild script?) and Terrence Nolen along with his wife Amy are the founding members who with the help of a very generous Walnut Street Theater space helped launch the now famous company. From there they had their own space on St. Stephen's alley and about 20 years now in the space where we sit. Now upstairs is the Arcadia sponsored theater which carries that name and holds about 200 people, downstairs is mainstage which holds about 400 and about 60 feet down the block is the newest addition of a 100 seat stage theater that houses the drama school and the cabaret series started one year now." says Stephen. Arden Theatre Company""Now the Arden is Producing Artistic Director Terrence and wife Amy. Aaron has since moved on to the Washington DC area where he is primarily a writer...(he answers when I say what happened to Aaron? did you kill him and take over his 1/2 of the theater! ha ha ha -nope)Aaron moved to Washington DC having started the first show of the season here adapted from Anton Checkov's play, the seagull, aptly named Stupid Fucking Bird. It premiered in 10 national Equity Theater Companies around America and the only one that Aaron directed is here his home theater. Truly an amazing experience. I guess what makes the Arden different is numerous items. A. Terrence is keen on finding the right actors. As a matter of fact for that Scottish Play...(!_) that all you actors won't mention." and of course me as a thespian stop him immediately when he starts to say the M! word, "he wanted the Philadelphian actor Ian to play the starring role. When Ian wasn't available for 3 years he waited and waited and finally said alright he says that he can do it! " That is the kind of creative person Terry is. He sees a person that is perfect for a role and needs to have that person. Like Stephen Spielberg for Lincoln. It was Danile Day Lewis or nothing." Me? I remember rehearsing and streching myself with the role of Nina from the Seagull in private Wilma Theater sessions headed by none other than the famous and extremely demanding and intense matriarch of the Arts Institute in Philadelphia, director Irene Baird herself. I can't wait to read Aaron's adaptation of it. http://www.ardentheatre.org/

The Phillies and the Flyers are part of the Campos teams that they were specifically invited to set up stands for. And below is the number one Phillies guy showing his appreciation...how in the world does he eat in that outfit! Below is the Phillies Fanatic. The number one craziest fan ever.

Definitely a family affair since it is the 3rd generation, and if you count the little ones below the 4th in training! Now ready to meet Mike, the father, Michael and Mia the son and daughter, when you enter Campos on 2nd and Market? The only way you can meet Mike's wife, Denise, is if you eat her homemade meatballs that she makes everyday from home!
                          http://www.claudiofood.com/IntuitSolutions magento design
"The picture is of the butcher shop that my mother and father first started with, and as a young child of 5 years old I had fun everyday putting things on the shelves...however, when I grew to age 10 years to 14 years, while all the other children were outside playing I had to stock shelves. It wasn't fun anymore! At the age of 16 due to my father's health, I became a full-fledged member of the Campo team," says the very nice Mike. "My son is Michael. That is how we tell the difference when were really busy here. MICHAEL!  Campos has been a Philadelphia institution  since 1947. We moved here in 2000 and only have the restaurant now. At first I thought that people wouldn't know us and we would have to start all over but soon people came everyday and we have people all the time that come in and say, O are you the Campos of South West Philly?" Mike smiles when he tells me the story. After seeing everybody come in ordering cheesesteaks for the last one hr., the owner asks if I would love one? Alright I say and try one with cheezwhiz.
Michael is helping out on the shelves below! "That is me believe it or not!" he says. " The funniest thing is when the tourists come in and ask if we have Phillycheese cakes instead of Phillycheese steaks! We know they're tourists. If you're from Philadelphia you assume that it is a Philly cheesesteak and only ask for cheesesteaks. Tourists are great!" he says.                 http://camposdeli.com/
Above is the Grandmother and Grandfather of Campos...while below is the next generations...
Mia, Mike's daughter, says, "I have a Master's Degree in Childhood Education and yet I came straight to work here with my father and brother. I love it. And trust me when I say that my Elementary Education degree is used here. The guests are like children. I always have to gently tell them to wait their turn when they get a little rowdy." She says. "My mother watches my 11 month old daughter for me while we all come to work at Campos yet she makes the meatballs from home that we have here. Whenever she can!" she laughs when I ask if it is when her daughter is taking a nap! "I love dealing with people all day, and working with family is all that I have ever known so I really can't compare it." she says.
"My Grandpa is from Belguim and he taught me how to brew. By trade I am a CPA and worked for Price Waterhouse and Campbell's Soup in Belguim 3 years. At Antwerp. Yes, I drank many Belguim beers and grew to appreciate and love em. Finally after 10 years with Campbell's soup I opened the bar here. For the first year, my sister managed it and my brother's brother-in-law, who said he is a master's cook, was my cook. The first year was horrible since I trusted the cook and finally one day surprised him by walking into the kitchen and he was putting food in the microwave. He had this attitude like I have plans, and I was like me too, new cook! I hired wonderful people from the country club and had 3 master specialty chefs that concentraed on sauces, a saucier named Jason, Theo who did the fish and produce and Richard the savory. It is a very old traditional Belguim French Restaurant feel to it. I chose the word Tavern since it isn't a bar. It is a place where people can come to meet. And it is reasonable although we have specialty beers, 400 of them, people can come in here and take a 2 hour vacation with something to eat and 2 drinks and spend $25.00. The level of beer is of the highest quality and the staff here is educated to talk about these beers" says Mike.   http://www.eulogybar.com/

All around the world sometimes I can go about 12 hrs and try to receive that one lovely quote, here is one from Mike that made me laugh uncontrollably, "My  music? How do I chosse it? I usually upload it from Pandora, however if I trust my employees I let them choose the music." I laugh and say Okay what if you don't trust them? "They don't get to choose the music." Um I really thought he was going to pull a Donald Trump, "You're fired." He laughs. "No employees are too hard to find, especially with the Septa Strike!"

The minute you walk into Don Quixote you will notice one of two things. That you respond like your vetching to your long-lost college classmate on a variety of important issues that effect your life. The things you love and the things that annoy you. It is that kind of place and more importantly that kind of people. It is tiny, intimate and 100% homemade. The chef is owner Vanessa and her only assistant is Ria who is a certified Tarot Card reader. Very accomplished. I guess while you eat your huge portions of Spanish tapas you can have your future read. 526 South 4th street, Philadelphia, PA, 19147
                       http://www.donquixotetapas.com/
"Here is my baby," says the lovely owner, Vanessa. I have been opened one year now and we're always trying new things. We have a lot of people that come in and say great things about us and that is important. For about 3 months we had master's students from Temple and they came in with their college books and would hangout here and eat tapas, drink their wine, since we don't have a liquor license and just chill. That is really fun to meet so many different people." she says.
"I want people to come here and feel like they're my family. I help everybody and I mean everybody.  I have art shows and let local's put their art on my walls, I have people from the neighborhood that are my real good friends and I try to help everybody out. That is my motto in life. It is about Karma. You help people and they will in turn help you." says the lovely owner of the tiny funky Don Quixote.
A wonderful dessert that Vanessa has created.
Above, Ria is posing. "Try the Sangria. The special that we give the guests is if they bring in their own bottle of wine we'll make Sangria for them. We ask for $3.00 for the ingredients and the entire table can enjoy it. The tapas are huge portions. And happy hour every Tuesday to Thursdays is only $5.00 a tapa. People think that tapas are little portions but we give huge plates. I thought that the Spanish tapa is the best although I am Italian, " says Vanessa. "Italian tapas just doesn't work!"
65 Miles from Philadelphia is Ocean City New Jersey. a $6.00 a day pink bike ride all the way along the south of the ocean across the fishermen wading in glossy boots bay and over the $1.50 toll bridge is the Ocean Hidden city of Strathmere...the only places to eat and drink are right across the bridge...the Deauville Inn, and behind the Pancake House. The one cool thing about Deauville Inn? During the summer and on the slow weekends don't mention that you're from out of the state! Especially if you're a girl, but if you are a girl don't wear makeup and hope for a makeover that is great. If you are from far away, it is your first time at the shore they take you out to the docks and push you into the water on the little shallow water docks. And once you're soaking wet, we hope you're clothes aren't too nice,  they give you a makeover as a welcome...free of charge(the beer and food you have to pay for yet the food is great, especially the seafood which is wonderful)The water is low about 1 foot near the docks and they push you in...yes that is right. You can sit in the outdoor tables or the inside tables, yet outside the local folk told me, That's right, they take the women in, dry your hair, redo a complete makeover and here you're ready for the shore life. And the makeovers from the shocked faces that I saw today were rather incredible. Gorgeous. But you can't come here everyday for a beauty makeover, it is only for first-timers to the shore, remember as you bike still further south that within 5 kilometers you reach the Sea Island Party City of the famous MTV JERSEY SHORE 5 YEARS.  Yep. And along the way is the most private secluded forgotten stretch of on one side the ocean and dunes and the other side of the one lane road is one layer of homes. That is it. Cool. Private. Ghostly...think of a perfect place to write a Steven King novel.http://www.deauvilleinn.com/

The peace riding on that little 5 kilometer road, with the breeze blowing my hair as I ride my bike, smelling the ocean air, waving to the locals in their shore houses is amazing.

Some of the coolest homes are the little non-descript ones that have their own docks and boats outback. I can imagine walking outside and putting on my goulash boots, grabbing the fishing pole and puttering out to bay.

The Ocean Shore from Ocean City to Cape May has some of the most untouched natural wild beauty with these huge millionaire homes one right after the other that the owners rent out in the summer and they stand empty in the winter except for the weekends when the owners drive from Philadelphia or Maryland and finally have a little peace and tranquility,
Strolling the boardwalk of Ocean City last night I saw little flash lights on the beach, walked out in the dark with my bike and a family of 5 were looking for seashells, their flashlights in hand. The moon? a pale brilliant pink.

First night had  to take the bus 507 which runs every 30 minutes from Friday to Sunday and is about 3.3 kilometers over the bridge from Ocean City to Somer's Point. It must be pointed out that Ocean City is the famly resort town of the Shore...as in it is a DRY TOWN, No alchohol is even sold in the city, however on all sides is neighboring shore towns within 6 kilometers and you can find bars abound such as in Somer's Point. As I said, jumped on the 507 bus, paid $2,25 and found Charlies. Along the way a group of pink and black t-shirt crazy people celebrating a 50 birthday party to which they invited me on the journey to Charlies. I was there to purchase a 6pak of Bud LIght. I passed a thrift store the 1/2 block to Charlies and went in. A bright pink and black t-shirt saying HI on the front and BY on the back awaited me. $2.00 later I was dressed for the black and pink party; however in walks a gentleman and the store keeper tells him to move his vintage light teal porsche...He says that he thought it okay to park outside and I said that maybe someone would think it is part of the thrift store and buy it! On to Charlie's a wonderful cool beach bar complete with funny people to stick your heads through to take pictures of.
Here is my pink bike on my favorite bridge of the world, the bridge that links Ocean City New Jersey to Margate and Ventor...beautiful lovely ride of about 8 miles to Atlantic City...and best of all you can take the regional train or bus from Philadelphia for about 10.00 dollars to the wonderful shore of Jersey.
Above my favorite shore house in Ventnor New Jersey ...right on the boardwalk it has a haunting unkept beauty about it...abandoned? I wish I could afford it. Love it.
Alright 8 days of Philadelphia, my favorite small city big city in the world, the cobbledstoned streets that Ben Franklin and Thomas Jefferson walked remind me of Regensburg, Germany, a old medieval city of beauty and secrets. Love that city of Philadelphia where I spent 5 years of my young life.HENRY'S SEAFOOD IN CHARLESTON, sc

The owner of Henrys pictured to the left is Leo. His manager is Patrick Johnson. I ask if he is from the famous Johnson and Johnsons and he laughs and says that he is a native Charlestonian! Leo is a bundle of energy of Peach and Tranquility and Wild Crazy Playboy Hugh Hefner mix. It is totally a treat to meet and laugh with the wild team of Henrys. "I bought the restaurant in 1985. It is one big restaurant and I tweaked it to include the Whiskey Bar upstairs which has jazz and blues and rock and roll on Fridays and Saturdays and the NV nightclub with VIP bottle service, a huge stage and dance floor and the lounge room. At one time it had a real swinging shag room which I am renovating now. That is my idea. I designed all the decorations and all the architecture myself. I am a straight male yet I am a great designer." He jokes when I say that I am truly in love with the entire place of Henrys.
It is named the Rum Runner of St. Augustine...rum runner conjures up many memories mostly of my days as a flight attendant for Midway Airlines where I flew every flight with my buddy Cheri Rafferty (husband James Hershey, yes of the Hershey Chocolate Family) now owner of Talent Management a model and acting talent agency in Chicago. While at the airline I had many buddys with the famous most wild airline in the world that merged with Midway... South Florida Airlines(think the sad story of South Florida Airlines heading into the Potomac river on that fateful icy day...I flew with "ernie" many times whose best friends were on that flight.). A couple of these pilots were millionaire playboys living on the intercoastal waterways of Miami and Ft. Lauderdale and we went on many Miami South Beach yacht adventures to find little water huts of rum runners. That is the pirate legacy of the south Florida formation of colonies. Here at St. Augustine I am about to embark on another one we hope with my lovely funny and wildly intelligent friend the Prince Al of Regensburg, Thurn und Taxis.http://www.blackravenadventures.com/
Tonight at 7:45pm which to me on European time is 19:45pm. The 29th of July. Arrrrgh mateies!
Says the wonderfully beautifully sophisticated  Swedish owner of the Pirate ship named Monica(and her husband is Gunnar). "We came to St. Augustine and owned a hotel but no longer. We built the ship from our own imagination.tion thinking that the city of St. Augustine needed a Pirate ship adventure to compliment the rest of the charming town. It is such a wonderful historic town and we had a famous architect design the pirate ship.
The entire idea and trip and ship is from our ideas. I don't think that any other ship in the world is like this one." she says. st call Friday and Saturday rumrunner ship. It is how do you say? Not for the easily offended"I hope that you are a adult when you are courageous enough to board the 8:00pm rumrunners cruise...it is not for the faint hearted and we hold our breath. We never! know what they are going to say next(kind of like Trump's speech writers.." Her Public Relations Genius name is Grace how says, "Lets say BAWDY is a good word. It is a adult cruise. We have children's cruises everyday where they can be pirates and we have Birthday celebrations and of course weddings however the Friday and Saturday night is for adults only." Okay we got it~!
The wonderful St, Augustine...the trolley rides around the island to about 33 locations all day long...a 3 day ticket is a must. Fun and informative...yet the coolest item on the list today on the 28th of July? The last day of the Rock a Billy Group, Go, Get, Gone at the famous outdoor FREE stage pictured below on George Alley...the central location smack in the middle of the famous old fashioned city. Starts at 18:45pm...aka 6:45pm to the Americans. Come have fun all night long and enjoy the huge Rock-a-Billy band before it makes its way to europe for their tour! http://colonialquarter.com/dine/taberna-del-caballo/ is the website if you want to check Kelley below, Cindy Stavely, the executive director and Cindys husband John who does the Colonial Tours of the 2 acre open arena that spans from the 1500s to the 1700s. "We have the Bull and Crown English Pub Restaurant too in addition to the Largest Authentic Pirate Museum in the World." she boasts. The bartender, Kelley pictured below in the outside stage arena where the Rock-a-Billy Band is playing tonight at 6:45 pm(18:45pm to the Europeans), gave me a cool Ginger Frozen Marguerita. I am NOT A FAN of GINGER, however fell in love with it. "Order a Air Conditioner Ginger Style tonight at the concert if you love it that is the drink." He says as he gives me a taste of Ginger beer that they brew themselves! Um Yum. Cindy says that "I truly enjoy the city. Me and my husband came here 20years now on the honeymoon. I wanted to show him where my daughter attends college at the Flagler University. We fell in love with the city and I have been involved with the tourism business of St. Augustine ever since. Make sure you say that the Pirate Museum has the largest artifacts collection of the Golden Age of Piracy in the world. 2 Major Pirate Attacks seriously happened here. Sir Francis Drake burned the city to the ground and we have artifacts from that event and Robert Searles pirate attacked the city in 1668. We have 1 of 3 Jolly Rogers flags that still exist in the world right here in the museum. It has about 800 artifacts real and authentic...people come from everywhere in the world and finally St. Augustine is receiving the recognition it deserves. Last year Mumford and Sons added St. Augustine and brought over 35,000 fans! Now they tell friends and friends tell friends and everybody is coming to St. Augustine." she says proudly. Please come and say hi. "We all will be at the event tonight having fun, not working!" she says.
